Colorado isn’t just beautiful — it’s downright breathtaking. Between the jagged peaks, red rock formations, alpine lakes, and charming mountain towns, it’s one of the best places in the country to take engagement photos. But with so many jaw-dropping options, narrowing down a location can feel overwhelming.

I’ve put together some of my favorite engagement session locations across the state — from iconic landmarks to hidden gems — all with their own unique vibe and scenery. Whether you want epic mountain views, downtown city energy, or something intimate and off the beaten path, Colorado has it all.

My Top Engagement Session Locations in Colorado Springs

Right in the heart of the state, these spots are known for their stunning views and easy access — no crazy hikes required.

1) Garden of the Gods (Colorado Springs)

One of the most famous locations in Colorado for good reason. Towering red rock spires, snow-capped Pikes Peak in the background, and glowing sunsets make it a classic for engagement sessions. Parking is free and no photography permit is required, but it’s a busy park year-round, so sunrise or weekday evenings are ideal for a little more privacy.

2) North Cheyenne Cañon (Colorado Springs)

For couples who want a touch of forest, waterfalls, and adventure, this is a hidden gem tucked right in the city. Helen Hunt Falls makes a magical backdrop, and the surrounding trails offer quiet pockets for more intimate moments. No photo permit required.

3) Palmer Park (Colorado Springs)

This underrated park gives you panoramic views of Pikes Peak, dramatic cliffs, and red rock formations without the tourist crowds. It’s especially beautiful during golden hour. Easy access, free parking, and dog-friendly.

4) Pikes Peak Summit & Highway (Colorado Springs)

If you want a “top of the world” feel, you can literally drive to the summit of a 14er. The views are unreal, and the light at sunrise or sunset is unmatched. Just note there is an entry fee, and weather can be unpredictable year-round.

Mountain + Scenic Locations (Within 2 Hours)

Looking to go a little further afield for sweeping alpine landscapes? These are tried-and-true favorites:

Lake Dillon / Dillon Reservoir – Forests, mountains, and lake views all in one easy drive from Denver.

Guanella Pass – Perfect for fall colors with endless scenic pull-offs and golden aspens.

Loveland Pass – On the Continental Divide. Unreal sunrise spot (bundle up!).

Brainard Lake + Lake Isabelle – Alpine lake magic, best in summer.

Boulder + Front Range Favorites

If you’re coming from Denver or Boulder, these are classic engagement spots with great access.

Chautauqua Park / Flatirons – Wildflowers in summer, snow-dusted peaks in winter. OSMP permit required.

Lost Gulch Overlook – Epic sunset views. Crowded but stunning.

NCAR + Flatirons Vista Trailhead – Gorgeous foothill scenery with lighter crowds.

Downtown Vibes (Denver)

Urban locations can be just as romantic as mountain views.

Union Station – Historic architecture and that quintessential “Denver” look.

RiNo Art District – Colorful murals, breweries, and a cool, modern vibe.

Byron White Courthouse – Elegant, clean lines and timeless marble columns.

Parking Garages / Skyline Views – For moody, modern sunset shots.

Epic + Unique Destinations

For couples who want a wow backdrop and don’t mind a little travel:

Great Sand Dunes National Park – Surreal, desert-meets-mountain vibe.

Maroon Bells (Aspen) – Classic Colorado postcard scene.

Rocky Mountain National Park – Dream Lake, Sprague Lake, Moraine Park, and more.

Red Rocks Amphitheatre – A Colorado icon.

A Few Quick Tips for Choosing Your Location

Sunrise and sunset are your best friends — soft, golden light makes everything more magical.

Weekdays or early mornings usually mean fewer crowds at popular spots.

Check permit requirements. Some locations (like Chautauqua Park or Red Rocks) require permits.

Dress for the location. Mountain tops can get chilly even in summer.

Whether you’re dreaming of red rocks, alpine lakes, or modern downtown vibes, Colorado has endless possibilities for your engagement session. These are just a few of my personal favorites — but the truth is, the best location is one that feels like you.
