MEMORIES
Some of my earliest and most meaningful memories come from sitting beside my grandma, carefully turning the pages of old photo albums. The edges were worn, the corners softened from time, and the photos themselves told stories long before I could read. She would pause on certain images, smile quietly, and begin to share names, moments, and memories that felt bigger than the photographs themselves. Those afternoons taught me something I didn’t realize until much later - that memories are meant to be revisited, felt, and passed down.
I still love looking through old photos of our family. There’s something grounding about holding a moment in your hands, seeing where you came from, and feeling connected to the people and stories that shaped you. These images aren’t just pictures - they’re pieces of our history.
For a long time, though, I didn’t fully understand how fragile memories could be. When we got married, we assumed the digital files we received would be enough. They felt easy, modern, and permanent. Our photographer captured snapshots of one of the most profound days of our lives - but they were one-dimensional. Flat. The emotion we felt that day didn’t live in those images the way we expected it to.
Now, years later, those photos live on a scratched CD - one that can no longer be read. None of our computers even have a CD-ROM drive anymore. We don’t revisit those images because it requires effort, digging, and technology that no longer exists. The memories are still there, but they feel distant.
That experience changed everything for me.
